maybe ally…sees “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”.
I think my jaw dropped no less than 4 times while watching Sweeney Todd. Mostly because the entire company is exceptional and the scenic design of that stage. Wow. You mesh it up all together and get a wonderful show. It made me wish I'd seen it sooner — but let me tell you Aaron & Sutton are forever loved for a reason. They've worked hard to keep these classic characters beloved while also bringing their own spin to them. Sutton cracked me up the entire time. I'm never gonna hate an over-the-top Mrs. Lovett. Not ever. Also Aaron as Sweeney a bold choice. One I enjoyed!
🎶 | You’ll never catch me hating any music Sondheim ever created especially the music in this show. Much of it I knew prior to seeing the show & with so many productions of the show over the years it's unavoidable. You'll hear a track from the show eventually. For me, it's when I hear “Johanna”. I melt. Anyone else melts? Cause I certainly do. I got to hear Daniel Yearwood belt it out and I cried. What a beautiful song. But of course “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd” takes your breath away right at the beginning and you know you're in for something special. Gosh. That company. So good.
You've got just a few weeks more to catch Sweeney Todd as it's closing once Aaron Tveit & Sutton Foster end their run. So if you've got the chance I definitely recommend going. Sometimes with some shows, I don't fully get the hype. It isn't until I see the full spectacle that I realize it. That's what happened here. I grabbed coffee after and had to absorb it.
It was that good. 🔪💈🎭
