maybe ally...sees "The Great Gatsby”.
My heavens. What a party. The dazzle! The spectacle! The clothes! If anyone knows me well they know the 20’s & the 30’s have some of my favorite clothing styles of any fashion era. Those flapper girls I tell ya! On a whim, I entered the lottery for this one and won! After a slight hiccup, the hubs was kind enough to come with as he was curious about how such a story would be put to stage.
🥂 | I'm here to say they've done a great job in putting page to stage and while (for me) there are pacing issues between each act and the book could use some work the story was there and the music is great. Jeremy Jordan & Eva Noblezada shine & Noah J. Ricketts is the perfect Nick Carraway. He's got the right balance of empathy & blame in him. Those eyes. My heavens. Samantha Pauly cracked me up as Jordan Baker! She stole the show at some points. What a force!
Allow me to go back to Jeremy Jordan for a bit. He deserves all the praise because he accomplished so much for me on that stage. The songs he is given are not easy by any means and he carries them smoothly. Jay Gatsby is a hard man to like. He's also a hard man to hate. It can get divisive at times. Jeremy knows this and plays off of that — and well. He's got Gatsby down. At least the way I envision him to be. Love him.
From the set design to the lighting & costumes & orchestrations it was all so elegant and so beautiful and a show that's worth your time. I say you wanna go into it knowing the book more so than the film. They stay pretty faithful to the source material (it's a classic after all). You'll be able to follow it better and prepare yourselves for the twists that are coming. It gets dark but stays light if that makes sense. So prepare for that too.
Now hurry quickly Old Sport & see @bwaygatsby.
