maybe ally…sees “Harmony: A New Musical”
It's not often that a musical can move me to tears. By the time Chip Zien belted out that last song I was kind of a mess. What a beautiful story to bring to the stage about a group I knew very little about but was happy to learn. I miss that about theatre. It's not to say I can't learn anything from a jukebox musical per se but I definitely absorbed the material here. Seeing the story of The Comedian Harmonists (dramatized a bit of course) play out on stage was such a learning experience.
🎶 | This show is poignant and thought-provoking. It's on Broadway at the right time and can present some interesting conversations after the fact. We follow The Comedian Harmonists on their rise to fame in Europe during the 1920s through the early war years — and all the tribulations that came with that.
Every single person in this company gives it 1000% every single night. You can tell this story means so much to so many and they pour their hearts out each time. Listen if I ever see Chip on the Upper West Side pinch me I'm dreaming! I'd be so lucky. Living legend he is. Sierra, Julie, Danny, Sean — everyone literally everyone blew me away.
Do me a solid and if you can go see this one at the Barrymore theatre before it closes (way too early I might add!). You have until February 4th to learn a little history & listen to some incredible voices.
