maybe ally...sees “Vladimir”.

Manhattan Theatre Club’s 2024-2025 season is in full swing, bringing forth a variety of captivating performances!

I had the incredible opportunity to see “Vladimir” this weekend, and I was blown away by how thought-provoking and significant this production is about the times we live in. The play boldly navigates the fine line between action and reaction, reminding us how easily history can repeat itself. The central story follows Raya, an independent journalist who is tasked with covering Putin’s first term in office, and she struggles to maintain her mental health as the world around her becomes increasingly dangerous. Throughout the play, Raya grapples with the weighty question of whether her heroic actions will truly matter or make any impact on her country. It was such a fantastic show that left me in deep contemplation afterward— I can't emphasize enough how the mind reels after experiencing it.

Norbert Leo Butz and Francesca Faridany shine brightly together on stage, making you believe in the authenticity of their friendship. You are convinced that their bond is very real; they love each other deeply and are desperate not to lose one another as their world crumbles around them. I always appreciate witnessing a show where you can tell that everyone involved loves the material and pours their hearts into bringing it to life with such passion. The show thoughtfully begs the question, “How far are you willing to go to do the right thing?” prompting the audience to reflect on what that right thing means for each individual. “Vladimir” is presented by @mtc_nyc and will be at @nycitycenter until November 10th.
