Happy Friday Guys & Dolls!

On this short and sweet edition of Notes on Disney Style, we talk all about PATTERNS! Similar to our conversation on color we will get into how patterns can evoke emotion in people who are looking at them!

If you name some patterns off the top of your head you’ll get classics like polka dots, stripes, paisley, gingham, stars…the list goes on and on! but what makes them so unique? why do we choose certain prints over others?

Are there truly rules when it comes to patterns or can you do whatever you want?

You’ll see Stripes on Disney characters like Smee or Polka Dots on Minnie Mouse. In Minnie’s case, it works so well because of the colors used as well. So the relationship between pattern and color is so symbiotic.

Let’s take a look at some patterns:

Stripes: Stripes are one of the most common and well-recognized patterns. Types include pinstriping, fat stripes, or diagonals. You will see them quite often.

Checks (and Gingham): It’s not your typical checkmark from school but checked patterns consist of horizontal and vertical stripes (think chessboard).

Plaid (and Tartan): Plaids go by many different names the Glenn Plaid and the more famous Tartan. They have the same idea in their pattern. They will typically consist of two or more colors and are usually woven in horizontal and vertical bands.

That’s just a taste of the time of patterns you’ll see in style. It gets turned upside down a bit when you toss in Disney.

Now let’s talk about two influencers who use patterns so wonderfully!

@TEAMSPARKLE

And incredible Influencer who uses patterns in all the best ways is Team Sparkle. One look at her page and you immediately smile. When she isn’t using color to evoke emotion like these creators here, shes using patterns to do the same.

She’s a fellow Plus Size influencer who loves Disney and my heavens do I love her style. She’s vibrant and bold and unafraid. Her pattern use is striking and makes you say “ooooh”

There is also a lot of animation in her poses that bring her outfits to life. You’ll see stripes on her and understand shes vying for your attention. Stars mean happiness and joy.

@ENCHANTEDALEXANDRA

I love to call Alexandra a queen with red hair. So striking is her beauty and her fashion. It’s hard not to pull your eyes away from her. She uses patterns in a very vintage way thanks to her edits.

I love how she uses patterns within her background and not always her wardrobe. It makes for a more lively photo because it jumps out at you, especially if she’s wearing solid colors.

Her feed screams magic and enchantment which makes sense huh?

So the question as always is how will you use patterns in your Disney Style?
