Fast Fashion (an Essay).

So you wanna buy a few things for a Disney bound. Depending on your size and price point you’ll be facing a big dilemma depending on your beliefs.

I personally am ok with Fast Fashion as it’s a means to an end when it comes to shopping for my size. Back in the day, I would have a real problem with shopping anywhere because my size wouldn’t be in stores. As covid drew longer and we stayed inside more I gained a ton of weight and went into Summer 2020 at a whopping 202lbs. Nothing fit me in many stores and so fast fashion shops like Forever 21, H&M, SHEIN & more became my go-to.

It’s almost by design really. A lot of shops just flat out refuse to sell anything above a 1X and claim no money is to be made from 2X and higher (which just isn’t true, the money is there TRUST ME).

WHY FAST FASHION?

Several factors come to play here. Your access to money and what size you are are huge factors on if your buying fast fashion or not.

The biggest means to an end? The prices. Especially now when so many are out of work and can’t afford to buy clothing regularly or good pieces that last forever but just cost too much. Fast Fashion is a way to go because it doesn’t pinch the wallet.

SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

There are several options to reduce your carbon footprint when it comes to fast fashion. Thrifting and Second-Hand shopping are two of the biggest ways.

Try places like ThredUP who send kits (just a bag really) to your home and you can donate/give to the site and they can give you credit to the site to shop or you can cash out and make $$$$. Thrifting is popular albeit a little too popular to the point where it’s gentrified to a point nowadays.

Mostly though if we can get higher-end shops to create sizes that are more inclusive but also make pieces more affordable I think we’d see fewer people heading to fast fashion all the time.
