Travel: Chicago.
I did so much while here. So let me go through it day by day!
DAY ONE:
Well, it was really night one. I got in at 5pm and had 2 hours to find a pharmacy, grab some essentials, check into my hotel, shower, & get dressed for a show. The show you ask. MJ The Musical! It was playing at the Nederlander Theatre, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see it while in town. Luckily the theatre was very close to where I was staying making everything easy for me.
DAY TWO:
The fun really began here as I woke up SUPER early to head to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery with my girlfriend Andrea. She’s a cool human being. I highly suggest you follow her on IG! After having Pumpkin Martini’s at 8am we walked around the city a bit. We did some shopping and grabbed some snacks. We headed over to the Art Institute of Chicago and I got to see some amazing work by the likes of Picasso, Andy Warhol & Jeffery Koons.
By late afternoon we finally got to some food! I tried my first ever Deep-Dish pizza. Vegetarian style from world famous Lou Malnati’s! It was very good. I look forward to trying a different type of next time I’m in town.
After some more walking we parted ways, and I headed back to the hotel for some rest before dinner. I overslept a bit and ended up back at The Dearborn which is where I ate the night before. They had amazing food there. They are worth a follow!
DAY THREE:
I spent a lot of this day walking the city and looking at all the street art but before that I went to the famous Navy Pier! I got to ride the Ferris wheel, enjoy some snacks, and even had a margarita in honor of Jimmy Buffet who I found out earlier in the day had passed away. I enjoyed standing by the water and just really taking in the scenery. The Chicago skyline really is perfection.
I couldn’t wait for the architecture tour I’d be going on that Monday! For now, though I rested my feet and decided to try a rooftop bar for the night along with some McDonalds. I think my feet and my body needed real rest, so I called it early in the hotel room. Grabbed cheap wine, got tipsy and had whatever version of fun I decided to have.
DAY FOUR:
I went to the Sear Tower (was told not to call it Willis) and its observatory which they call the Skydeck Chicago. Along with some photo ops there is something there called “The Ledge” in which you are pretty much standing in this glass cube at the ledge of the building. It’s scary but such a beautiful view of the Chicago skyline.
After a break at the hotel, I had dinner with a great friend of mine who lives in Chicago. It was my first time meeting her we just gelled so quickly. Love Itzy so much. Follow her on IG!
DAY FIVE:
My last full day in Chicago was a blast! I went on a world-famous Architecture cruise! and learned so much about the city and its history. Seeing the skyline from this angle was a treat as well. I loved it. Needed to wear lighter clothing because it got hot! other than that I was good.
I went back to my hotel, took a shower, and headed to Wrigley Field. I just wanted to see it. I got lucky that a kind stranger took my photo. I walked around Wrigleyville, grabbed ice cream and then went back to my hotel to pack. I had my last meal in Chicago (for now).
Chicago really is a cool city. I see why a new yorker like myself would love it and fall into it so easily. This city is so delightful. I met so many incredible people, met internet friends who've turned into more. I saw the most beautiful architecture and even squeezed in a musical.
Chicago, you've got a lot to offer a young woman like me. Maybe one day who knows. I say bye for now knowing I got a bit of a home here too. Why not?
