As the summer months come to a close, September arrives with a breath of fresh air, bringing with it a mix of warm and cool temperatures. It was a good summer but it’s time to think about fall. This transitional season can be tricky to navigate, but with the right pieces and styling tips, you'll be ready to take on the month in style.
Read this post on what you should try for September! You’ll find something here that will help you figure out not only your style for the month but your style for the ENTIRE season.
Key Pieces to Invest In:
Light Jackets and Coats: Denim, leather, or trench coats are perfect for crisp September mornings and evenings. I also like layering with them. You’ll want to find blazers with patterns on them. Stripes, gingham and plaid.
Sweaters and Knitwear: From chunky to fine, sweaters are a must-have for layering under jackets or on their own. I like simple colors. Neutrals are always a great choice. Beige, black or brown are solid choice colors.
Comfortable Pants: Jeans, trousers, and leggings are essentials for everyday wear. I love denim jeans. I like a medium wash with a crop (i’m a short gal!) but also have some trousers I love form Zara that work well when I go to the thetre.
Autumnal Accessories: Add warmth with scarves, hats, and statement jewelry in earthy tones. Along with earth tons you can try gold jewelry as well. I love dainty mixed with a bold bracelet. I feel gold matches earth toned clothing better but if silver is your thing were cooler tones when styling outfits.
Ankle Boots: Perfect for dressing up or down, ankle boots are a versatile choice for September. Get them with a kitten heel if you worry about length! I love to look a little taller and elongate my legs for photos.
Outfit Ideas:
Casual Chic: Pair a white sweater with distressed denim jeans, ankle boots, and a leather jacket for a relaxed yet stylish look. It definitely screams “basic” but for me it’s a classic look. A fall staple made famous by plenty of content creators out there. We all have these key pieces in the closet. Try it!
Workwear Inspiration: Layer a light coat over a blouse and trousers, finished with loafers or ballet flats. I like to accessorize with a work outfit as well. Lots of gold jewelry or if you wanna be cute put something in your hair like a ribbon!
Date Night: Combine a flowy dress with tights, ankle boots, and a denim jacket for a romantic evening out. It’s a country flare look but functional for a date-night. If you’re date goes from walk to food back to walking you’ll be fine.
Weekend Brunch: Wear a cozy sweater with leggings and sneakers, topped with a trendy hat and statement necklace. I am a big believer in hats. Check out my hat guide for some tips on how to wear them!
Trends to try this month:
Oversized Silhouettes: Embrace loose-fitting jackets and coats for a comfortable, on-trend look.
Earth Tones: Incorporate shades of olive, terracotta, and golden brown into your wardrobe for a seasonal feel.
Utility Chic: Add functional details like pockets and buckles to your outfits for a stylish twist.
Tips for Transitioning Your Wardrobe:
Mix and match lightweight and heavyweight pieces to adapt to changing temperatures.
Invest in Timeless Pieces: Focus on classic items that can be worn across seasons.
Experiment with Accessories: Update your look with seasonal accessories to refresh your wardrobe.
As September unfolds, remember to have fun with your wardrobe and experiment with new combinations of pieces. Get creative with what’s already in your closet, don’t be afraid of a bit of color & remember that comfort is always primary. Always always choose comfort first.
Happy styling!
