New York City Shopping: Where I Shop Around the City
New York City. Born & Raised. There truly is no place like it and for me — no place like home. For those who aren’t so familiar it can be pretty daunting trying to do anything here. I want to help you tackle at least one thing — SHOPPING!
New York City is best known as the shopping mecca of the East coast (the world is debatable). What it's not known for its plus-sized fashions. Let's face it although the majority of America is heading toward the double-digit waist size many retailers and designers alike just don't make clothes for women after a certain size. Shopping in a place like New York is already hard enough but is only made harder for those sizes 14 and up. Below are some tips to follow when shopping as well as some places you can head to find exactly what you need at affordable prices.
Before you go:
1: Make sure you know your size. You will be amazed at how often women of all sizes can easily buy the wrong size and end up having to make a return. Know your body and know what size you generally fit into. It is vital for curvier ladies to know this and understand it. Some stores like Old Navy and Banana Republic do have vanity sizing, in those instances, you'll find yourself a medium when in fact you're still large. So having a general idea will save you.
2: Know what you're looking for. A dress? ok or some jeans? that's cool too. It'll save you time. Nothing is worse than a purchase you'll regret as soon as you walk out. It's kind of like going to Duane Reade. If you don't know what you're getting you'll
walk out with things you didn't mean to buy and yet here you are and you forgot what you initially went in for.
3: Most important. Be comfortable. Don't start this search in heels. Don't wear too much makeup either. You want to be ready to try on clothing so make it easy for yourself. This is plus size shopping it's going to take a while so be ready.
Now check out some of my favorite brands to shop in the city:
260* Sample Sale:
What once was a New York City perk, has now been brought to Metropolitan Cities across the country, and to the continental US Online.
We work in direct partnership with highly sought after brands to bring genuine designer products without the designer price tag!
I love 260* Sample sale. I mostly go when brands like Rent the Runway or Stoney Clover lane have sales there but if you follow the website or their IG account they will tell you almost daily about sales they are having. You’re getting sample sale pricing so things are very affordable. Plus you can now shop ONLINE!

Old Navy:
Have I ever told you about the emergency jeans story?
While in Philly I had to buy them at Old Navy at 10 am because I didn't bring the right thing for one night there. You would have laughed seeing me in a Dr. Who dress and a J.Crew trench coat desperate for warmth and grabbing the first size 14 I could find!
Didn't even care about the cut (pretty sure these are straight leg) or the wash. I just wanted jeans that would rub my thighs for the day. I mean look at me. I have a body lol my thighs touch (trust me I love that!). In the end, I ended up loving them. Worn them a few times now and I love the shape they give me

Stoney Clover Lane:
As always I had a wonderful time at the Stoney Clover lane location in the West Village! It’s one of my favorite stores and everyone there is always so kind and so wonderful. SCL released a Tomato collection recently and I had to get in on it thanks to it’s awesome marketing and NYC Themes. They also sell clothing! So make sure you check out clothing options too!
Here’s what I grabbed from the Tomato Collection:

New York or Nowhere:
NYON is a lifestyle brand based in downtown New York City. We design premium goods for city slickers, and believe that there are no strangers here, only friends you haven't met yet.
I have SO MUCH from NYON! I’m an NYC girl forever and this shop caters right to my spirit and love of the city.

J.Crew:
I Never in a million years would think to buy anything from J.Crew. I always thought of it as a place that was too preppy for me. I was a bit wrong there because I find really nice pieces there. Some of my best schoolboy blazers and shorts come from here and my trench coat (pictured below) is always a show stopper on rainy days.
There are many locations so I won’t put one here but you could also shop online for goodies. They have sales often and you’ll find a lot of clean and polished pieces. I highly recommend.
