maybe ally...sees "JOB”.
It took me an entire week to figure out what I wanted to say here. I kept hearing about JOB as far back as May when I found out it would transfer to Broadway. In conversation with a few friends who’ve seen it, they would say little more than it’s about a woman in tech on the verge of a mental breakdown. That alone drew me to it & so when the opportunity finally arose I decided to see the show my peers have been raving about.
Dear Reader, I was left stunned, speechless, sad, empathetic & tense. I left the Hayes Theater with dread & in need of the stiffest drink I could find. I too have become one of my friends who won’t say much as it is a show you should experience.
Here are two people. Loyd (played exceptionally well by Peter Friedman) & Jane (who is masterfully played by Sydney Lemmon) are on a journey together with an end that’s unknown.
Jane was forced to take a leave of absence from her work following a public mental breakdown. She NEEDS approval from a therapist to get back to work. We are in this very tense session with her. Loyd explores her conflicts & then they explore each other’s lives. By the end, they face the very things that have bonded them together. I’ll stop there.
It was riveting. I highly recommend people go see it. It’s just been extended through October 27th. It’s easily one of the best plays I’ve seen in some time. Give Sydney & Peter every single flower. It is earned & deserved. Especially Sydney as the show I went to happened to be on her birthday. The work she did on that stage on her birthday…Exceptional.
