What is it about our neutrals that us New Yorkers love so much?

Neutrals are your best friend. I say that lovingly. They are the key components to any outfit. They are usually the color to complete the look per say.

An easy way to figure out how to incorporate them with your wardrobe is to try separating your neutrals from clothing with bolder color and put them into one place — trust me, it’ll go a long way when it’s time to style an outfit.

Colors You Want to Keep:

  • Caramel

  • Brown

  • White

  • Black

  • Cream

Pick a base neutral. I usually pick brown or black and then build from there. Think of the color wheel and what colors compliment well. Stick with those palettes. Pink works amazing with cream or brown while as cliché as it sounds – black works with everything!

august is all about surviving the heat and squeezing every last bit of summer out of the city. september feels different. suddenly the mornings are a little cooler, the sidewalks feel a little busier, and everyone seems to be returning to their routines.

There’s something about getting dressed in New York City that makes you rethink your entire wardrobe.

You can leave your apartment in the morning for a coffee run and somehow end up walking three miles, sitting in a café for two hours, running errands, meeting a friend for dinner, and making an impromptu stop somewhere you’ve never been before. Your clothes have to keep up with you.

And honestly? I think getting older has changed the way I think about getting dressed, too.

In my 20s, I was much more willing to buy something simply because I thought it was cute. These days, I want my clothes to be cute and comfortable. I want pieces that can be worn five different ways, shoes I can actually walk in, and a wardrobe that makes getting dressed feel easier instead of more complicated.
