Happening in August.
The Calm Before the Storm.
That’s right folks! Hope your first words today were “rabbit rabbit”. We could all use the good luck! Especially me as I embark on what may be the toughest season of my life. With August comes the last bits of summer and for me prepping for fall. There’s so much to do with my mom’s apartment, with myself. All things I have to do. I was built to handle it.
So I take August as my last bit of summer fun before the storm. Before life puts her dirty fingers back in me like Cassandra Nova. Before the tears and memories invade, before you see less on the blog. All of it. I also have a few doctors appointments to get through. It’s nothing too serious. Six weeks ago I got the first HPV shot of three and now it’s time for my second shot. I get my third a week into the new year. It was originally the 26th of December but I quickly had them change that as that date is sacred now. It’s the day my mother passed away in 2023 and so while Christmas is certainly never going to be the same I just want to take the day to reflect and honor her.
I’m looking for August to continue my relaxing phase. My partner and I are also planning a trip to Nashville (we are hoping to do that at the end of this month into September). So a lot of this month is just wait & see.
Let’s just have fun. ➳♡
Things to look forward to:
Once Upon A Mattress:
I can’t wait to see this show! I missed it at NYCC Encores! last season and when I found out it was going to be on Broadway I screamed! Redemption for me for sure. A little about the show:
Once Upon a Mattress – the iconic musical comedy that’s forever woven into the tapestry of theatre history and probably being performed at your local high school right now – is back on Broadway for the first time since 1996. Two-time Tony® winner Sutton Foster stars as Princess Winnifred the Woebegone alongside royalty of stage and screen, Michael Urie.
Direct from its sold-out New York City Center Encores! run and newly adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Once Upon a Mattress sets Winnifred, an unapologetic free spirit, loose in a repressed kingdom, where she charms, delights, and dances her way to the top… of a stack of mattresses.
Don’t miss this uproarious production of the show every theater kid knows like the back of their pillow!
You all know I love Sutton Foster so any chance I get to see her is something i’m just going to do. I can’t wait. I’m super excited and the Hudson Theatre is one of my favorite places so I’ll be right back home.
It’s on Broadway for 18 weeks ONLY! So Grab Tickets Here.
Santigold @ Terminal 5:
If you’ve been here for a while you know how much of a Santigold fan I am! Am I fan of the venue? fuck no but whatever it’s Santigold! With a mix of Afro-beats, Rap & Pop she brings her unique but wonderful style of music back to a stage as she hasn’t been on tour in some time.
If you want to purchase tickets are are some still available! Click here.
What Else?:
As we get closer to fall we get closer to a real test of my mental health. It’ll be the first time celebrating major holidays without my mother. My first Halloween, Thanksgiving & finally Christmas. That one hits more so as she passed away the day after Christmas. So it’s a true test of faith how i’ll survive the fall but alas I am strong and I know I have a lot of support. I’m very lucky my partner has a big family but also I have a very close group of friends. I can and will get through it and into the new year with hope, love & courage.
I’ve been entering show lotteries almost daily too. Money is a bit tight and so I don’t have the luxury of just purchasing whenever I want. So lotteries and even rush tickets will be my wins from now on. I honestly just need to find part-time work at this point. I let a lot dry up when my mother passed away and business is just not the same for me. All of this to say…
August is slow and it’s just how I like it. ☼☽
I’m a Lady. Got my mind made up.
